Definitions
Revalidation
The administration action taken within the period of validity of a rating or certificate which allows the holder to continue to exercise the priviliges of a rating or certidficate for a further specified period consequent upon the fullfilment of specific requirements.
Renewal
The administration action taken after a rating or certificate has lapsed for the purpoe of renewing the priviliges of the rating or certificate for a further specified period consequent upon the fullfilment of specific requirements.
Proficency Check
The demonstration of skill to revalidate or renew ratings, and including such oral examination as may be required. The proficiency schedule is contained in Appendix 9 to Commisiion Regulation (EU) No 1178/2011
The Process
Having successfully completed the Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) course the licence will be issued for life however to exercise the priviliges you are required to revalidate the ratings:
It will be valid for twenty-four months and then re-validated for a further twenty-four months subject to the following requirements:
- 1 i) Within the three months preceding the expiry date of the rating, pass a proficiency check with an authorised Examiner on either a single-engine piston aeroplane (land) or a touring motor glider. OR
- 1 ii) Within twelve months preceding the expiry of the rating complete twelve hours of flight time including six hours of Pilot-In-Command time and twelve take-offs and twelve landings. The twelve hours must include a training flight of at least one hour's duration with a Flight Instructor. This flight may be replaced by any other proficiency check or skill test for a class or type rating.
- 2) If a single-pilot single-engine class rating has expired, the applicant shall complete a proficiency check with an authorised Examiner.
IMPORTANT: A Certificate of Test or Certificate of Experience in your pilot's licence must be signed on completion of the above by an Examiner or Approved Flying Instructor
